About us
At South Street Honey our primary aim is to educate and spread the passion of bees and beekeeping to the wider world. We visit wild schools, forest schools, schools in both primary and secondary, and have adult education days as well. We have a holistic approach to keeping bees, only opening hives when we really need to and, more importantly, only taking resources when the bees have surplus.
The Food Trail has now finished.
Read on to find out about the kinds of activities offered but be aware that the dates quoted below only relate to July 2025.
Are you putting on a 30-Mile Feast or a tasting?
A tasting, Something else, A tour
Come and spend some time at our teaching apiary at the Dillington Estate near Ilminster on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 for a walking tour that will culminate in the opportunity to put on bee suits and visit some of our teaching hives. We have three tours per day and they are suitable for ages 12+. The tours are free but must be booked in advance.
And we're delighted to annouce that we will be joined by Lindsay, Dilington's assistant farm manager, who will share Dillington farm's approach to farming and why they have changed their farming practices to gain net zero. Dillington Estate is a family-owned working farm and Estate, covering around 3,000 acres in rural South Somerset.
We will meet and chat about all things honeybee, then walk onto the farm and apiary. We will change into bee suits and then spend some time opening hives and experiencing some real hands on beekeeping. We will taste honey straight from the hives, maybe spot the queen and learn about the different bees and their jobs within the hive.
