Great Mead Family Feast Picnic

Great Mead, Zembard Lane, Chard, TA20 1JL

About us

Great Mead is a pilot project in the heart of Chard, aiming to transform 6.4 acres of underused land into a welcoming place for everyone to enjoy. We're creating a vibrant community space filled with creative, wellbeing and nature-based activities and fun events. It’s all about bringing people together: connecting with the land, with each other, and exploring new ways to build a safe, inclusive, and beautiful space for everyone to enjoy.

What's happening during the Food Trail?

Are you putting on a 30-Mile Feast or a tasting?

A 30-mile Feast, Something else, A tour

Join us for a Family Feast Picnic on Sunday 20 July at Great Mead, Chard! Enjoy a relaxing afternoon surrounded by nature: magnificent trees, local wildlife, and a peaceful stream. There’ll be guided walks, offering you the chance to explore this beautiful spot, and live music from Oconee Bell. Unique on the West Country music scene, they perform an entertaining, toe-tapping mix of transatlantic music that draws upon a variety of influences including Americana, folk, and bluegrass.

Bring your own picnic and – in true “30-mile Feast” style – try to include at least one item produced from within 30 miles of your home. You’ll even have a chance to share your picnic story and give a shoutout to our local food producers.

This is your invitation to slow down, connect with others, and enjoy good food in a stunning natural setting. Let’s celebrate local flavours and community spirit together at Great Mead.
