Family Picnic – Wellington
78 North Street, Wellington, TA21 8NA
About us
Transition Town Wellington is a group of volunteers aiming to make our town more resilient in the face of climate change – to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, to help our natural environment and to increase food security and food sovereignty. One of our projects is to plant food-bearing plants, for example, herbs, nut or fruit trees and bushes, close to residents' houses for people to pick for free.
What's happening during the Food Trail?
Are you putting on a 30-Mile Feast or a tasting?
A tasting, Something else
Join us on Saturday 26 July for a family picnic at our Longacre Community Garden, which runs alongside the railway line in Rockwell Green, from 11am-3pm. There will be tours of the site, free food to try showcasing the harvests that you can pick for free, a bioblitz to spot wildlife, and children’s activities. Bring the kids and a picnic, and enjoy this lovely space. When we took over the land in 2019, it was an area of largely overgrown brambles, nettles and fly-tipping. It is now a beautiful mix of wildflower meadows, wildlife areas, fruit trees and bushes, wetland areas and mown pathways.
Also during the Food Trail festival week, we invite you to join our community gardening sessions held on the mornings of Friday 18 and Friday 25 @ Fox’s Field (a 8.5 acre area of open green space close to Tonedale Mill on the outskirts of Wellington) and Tuesday 22 at Longacre. We're a friendly bunch – come and meet us!
